Here We Go Again
Um… Check me out, being on time with my monthly blog post and shit. With seven days to spare, too? Who is she?!
Another read through of the sequel done, another box of tissues down. I seriously hope I’m not overhyping the feels of this book too much and that you don’t end up reading it without being moved in the slightest. It’s probably likely though, considering Ducky and Logan are so real to me and their woes and downfalls affect me in the same way as my real life friends.
In a fun little development, it turns out that the originally planned title, “Ends & Beginnings”, is pretty much incorrect straight out of the gate. Therefore, the sequel to Firsts & Lasts will now be called, “Ends & Starts”. I’m slowly coming around to it after saying the former for so god damn long. (My mum is not and wants me to stick with “Beginnings”—I believe her exact message was ‘fkk grammatically correct!’—but I’m sure she’ll get there as well.) I posted a sneaky little teaser of a heartbreaking chapter title to my instagram last night if you want to have a geeze at my highlights. I want to say it’s misleading and almost clickbaity, but it really isn’t 💔
I’m feeling super grateful for my editor, Simon from Tellwell, for cleaning up the story and making it look like I know what I’m doing. Every time an instalment comes out of my bank account for their package, I want to cry, but I have been humbly reminded once again of the value and worth of a professional editor. I wish Simon could proofread everything I write in my life—from this blog, to my Daily Stories at the kindy where I work, to the long naggy texts I send to Jarrod when I don’t want to do the laundry by myself.
Anyway, Ends & Beg— I mean, Ends & Starts… Will be available in the next few months after another couple rounds of editing and formatting. I started Firsts & Lasts in high school and have worked on it over the past 10 years, but I actually managed to complete the first draft for Ends & Starts in a snappy four months last year. In my opinion, it’s the best story I’ve written so far and I actually cannot wait for everyone who enjoyed F&L to have their hearts smashed into a million pieces when they read this one.
In kind-of-book-related news, my Booktok account gained 100 followers over the past week, bringing me to a whopping 240. Safe to say I’m ready to pack in my day job to live the TikTok influencer life ✨ I’m also totally kidding, Kristie, please continue to put me on the roster.
I’m loving this side of the app I’ve ended up on. The Bookish peeps are all so dang supportive and lovely, and their addictive content is not at all detrimental to my already crippling struggle with productivity and procrastination. If you’ve got a second, please make sure to check out my socials and say hi, or send me a corn emoji to let me know you’ve come from my blog—I’ll understand.
Finally, in totally-unrelated-book news, Hubby and I have yet another gig tonight—The Smith Street Band at the Tivoli. I’m not a mega fan or anything, but I’m so fucking excited to scream sing I Still Dream About You with them and the rest of the crowd 🤩
As always, all my love and thank you for your support!
P.S My cute af little tat was done by Dillon Sandrock and I’m pretty sure he’s my tattooist for life now. He bounces to different studios all over Brisbane’s Northside but you can check out his work on insta and hit him up @sandrock_tattoo ❤️🔥
