Still Breathing!
Wow, okay, um… hi? Been a while since I posted on the old blog, no? The last time I gave an update, I’d just released Ends & Starts which was well over a year ago… so… 😬
But I have been so ridiculously BUSY and a lot has changed since that one. For starters, on New Year’s Day 2024 at like, three-fucking-thirty in the morning, we started the massive move from Brisbane up to the Capricorn Coast—and it took forever because we’re too cheap to just hire removalists (hindsight is a goddamn beautiful thing), so we did about six trips up and back and then one more with the kids and pets. At one point, we sat down and worked out the maths, our results landing somewhere near the kajillion hours of driving mark. But anyway, we made it work and, while I still never want to drive a car again, we now live in the most adorable beachside town—one that four of my current WIPs are based on in terms of location—where our house, my work, and the kids’ school are all on the same block. It’s bliss.
Do I get raging FOMO when my Brissy friends hold social gatherings? Absolutely.
Is it enough for me to even have the urge to move back down there? Fuck no. You’ll never take me alive!
When we originally decided to move up here, the plan was for me to live my best stay-at-home-mum life… but after really taking time to look at the budget (and the fact that I’m not a multi-million dollar author yet—seriously, guys, help a girl out???) we decided it would be safer for me to continue working and contributing to the household savings. But, despite my utter heartbreak over not having the chance to be that embarrassing mum cheering the loudest for every award at weekly parade just yet, I’m super grateful for where I have ended up working. I was a tad nervous about employment in a small town where everyone knows everyone (low key not an exaggeration) but it’s honestly been fabulous. It’s very chill. It’s very… dare I say… me?
My books! Right, the reason you’re here—most likely?
Also since my last post, I have published a brand new title, completely separate to the Woodston Bay series, called Simply Platonic. I will most likely be doing a separate post that goes into detail about Mini, Brice and Billy’s story, but it is out there now—you guys are reading it, you guys are loving it, you guys are absolutely hating the ending (I get it and I’m sorry), and you guys are totally hanging for the sequel (again, I’m sorry). NaNoWriMo is just around the corner and I’ve already mentally prepared the family for the expectations of me being a horrid little office goblin that only comes out of my writing hole for snacks and tea for the entire month of November. Therefore, best case: I get the sequel, Simply Complicated, out there by Christmas; worst case, I self combust under the pressure of it all and the story never sees the light of the day*. How exciting!
I half want to make some sort of generalised commitment in terms of my blog, my book review posts, and my sporadic life updates, now that we’re settled in our new home, but we all know how I go with shit like that. I will try my best, but for now, we’re going for a bike ride to the beach and hoping we don’t get rained on while we’re there.
All my love and thanks for your support!
*update seven months later: second option looking way more likely 🥲
